“Water is the miracle drink we are all ignoring”
Water has consistently been a difficult beverage for me to consume. Honestly, I just never liked it. Don’t ask me why, that’s just the way it is. And honestly, I still don’t really like or “enjoy” drinking it, but I do because I know the major benefits of good ole H2O.
In February, I decided I would increase my water intake in a MAJOR way. I started a water challenge for myself and it has REALLY been a challenge. So pretty much transitioning from zero to maybe 16 oz of water daily, I bumped it up to 64 oz., the recommended amount for the entire month of February. From 64 oz. the next month I practiced drinking a minimum of 110 oz. And now for this month, I have been drinking a GALLON of water at least 3-4 times every week, with a minimum of the recommended 64 oz. on the other days. My final goal by the end of this month is to drink 1 Gallon of water for 7 days STRAIGHT!
Yup. One week. 7 days. A gallon every day.
Believe me, if you’re not a water drinker it is more challenging than it sounds. Yet, since I started my water journey, I have seen awesome improvements in my body, my skin, and sometimes I even crave water! Something I would have never imagined doing.
From WebMD, Here are a list of benefits to drinking water:
- Drinking Water Helps Maintain the Balance of Body Fluids
- Water Can Help Control Calories
- Water Helps Energize Muscles
- Water Helps Keep Skin Looking Good
- Water Helps Your Kidneys
- Water Helps Maintain Normal Bowel Function
I encourage you that if you haven’t already, start your own water challenge. Work your way up to your goal just as I did. Your body is probably crying for hydration and you don’t even realize it. 75% of humans are walking around DEHYDRATED every day! The truth is, the majority of the time, water is what your body REALLY needs!
Have fun with your water! Infuse it with tasty flavors, fruits or herbs such as lemon, lime, strawberries, blueberries, mint, rosemary, cinnamon etc. Check out these fun combos from The Gut Health Project | 11 Delicious Detox Water Recipes
You can also set a timer on your phone to remind you to drink a specific amount of water at a set time of day. I use this especially on my days I am really behind on my goal for the day. Purchasing a portable bottle or container that is easily refillable can help you easily measure how many ounces you are drinking. Sometimes I use one 16.9 oz bottle for the entire day. **Walking to the water fountain also helps me get my daily steps in**
Just in case this wasn’t a thought, yes you will probably have to go to the bathroom a lot. Only at first. Soon your body will get use to it’s new hydrated state and it will be a little less side-eyes from your co-workers.
