Snack Battle

Yesterday afternoon at work I began to get a little snack-ish (of course, cuz it was snackin’ time). So I decided to look in our office cabinet to see what was available to eat since I did not bring my KIND snack bar that I usually have at home and honestly at the time I just wasn’t in the mood for fruit (my main snack). So I checked our cabinet and decided to first pick up the Fiber One bar but then I noticed that a Nature Valley bar was also in the rankings. I’ve always personally been a fan of Nature Valley bars, despite its unwavering ability to always crumble just by looking at it, but I really wanted to compare both snacks to see if I was making the best choice. So, I decided to create a really informative post about it. I even had some Instagram participation in a poll! (IG: @tiffuhknee29)

So, the results are in!!

NATURE VALLEY WINS!

(at least in this battle)

So what’s the run down on this healthy competition? Well if you look below you’ll see that both bars are very similar in their nutrient composition. 📊

One of the main differences would be the calories listed for both bars: 190 cals for 2 Bars (Nature Valley) versus 140 cals for 1 Bar (Fiber One). 😳 Now, let’s take a look at the sugars. Although the Nature Valley bar has more grams of sugar, it actually has greater NATURAL ingredients—including the sugars. 🍯 Plus, the number of ingredients in the Nature Valley Bar = 10 versus the Fiber One Bar = 26! Yeah, MORE THAN DOUBLE! A good way to choose your best bar would be examining the number of ingredients in each! 🔢 Most importantly can you actually read the names for the majority of ingredients listed?! Hmm. 🤔

Next, let’s talk fiber. Now fiber is a great dietary addition. It helps with digestion and maintaining good bowel movements but as with anything = too much of anything could hurt you. It is best to have a variety of foods that contain fiber so that all of the fiber contents aren’t coming from one single food source. So beware on making Fiber One Bars a common addition to your meals if you already have a good fiber based diet. 🍽

Lastly, be sure that when you do choose a bar that what you’re eating is distinguished as a SNACK bar or a MEAL REPLACEMENT bar. Often times, if you’re not careful you could be eating an entire meal (but in bar form). 🎯
